Top 25 Masters of Health Administration Degree Programs

Masters in Health AdministrationThe Top 25 Masters of Health Administration Degree Programs for the year 2013 is a line up of schools with strong reputations for outstanding academics. The scores that led us to decide upon the rankings shown here were calculated based off of US News rankings for the top Healthcare Management programs, Times Higher Education university reputation rankings, and in a very small part the size of the programs.

US News’ ranking methodology is to send out an equal number of surveys to fully accredited programs in good standing. These peer assessment surveys are sent to deans, administrators, and faculty. Times Higher Education uses a similar ranking system. They employ an invitation-only academic opinion survey to collect subjective judgments of programs from senior, published academics.

The top ranked program out of these 25, the Masters in Healthcare Administration program from University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, was ranked #1 Healthcare Management program by US News with a score of 4.6 out of 5. University of Michigan was ranked as the 12th best university by reputation in the Times Higher Education rankings. In contrast, #25 on this list, Georgetown University, was ranked as a #29 Healthcare Management program by US News but was not ranked in the top 100 universities by reputation by Times Higher Education. Each program in between was ranked somewhere in US News’ top Healthcare Management programs but, like Georgetown, many did not appear on the university reputation rankings of Times Higher Education.

This list does not include Masters in Business Administration degrees with a concentration in Healthcare Management, but only Masters of Health Administration Degree Programs. This is unlike the US News ranking which includes MBA and MPH degrees.  The MBA/MHA programs, as well as the MHA programs, all focus on the increased need for management in the hectic, fast-paced healthcare industry of today.
