|Geisinger Health System||Two program concentrations have been designed to capitalize on the market and clinical differences of Geisinger’s service area hubs. Typically two positions are available each year, and one Fellow will be chosen for each concentration. Although each concentration will allow a unique experience, the core of our program lies in the knowledge gained through significant involvement with clinical operations, the health plan, community practice, finance, information technology and research.
Upon mutual agreement, the Central/Western market or the Northeastern market concentration is pre-selected. During the initial fellowship month a formal orientation will be carried out and the Fellow will meet staff from throughout the system and become familiar with the organization. A formal assessment will be conducted with the fellow, leading to an agreed upon curriculum and training program objectives. On a monthly basis, progress to plan will be reviewed by the fellow and preceptor, with a written report generated upon six months and at conclusion of the first year. This will form the basis for transition into the second fellowship year.
|Henry Ford Health System||Henry Ford offers two system-wide administrative fellowships that are one year in duration. Each fellow is assigned to a preceptor in one of the System’s business units.While the fellows are strongly encouraged to explore other areas of the health system through project work, informal mentoring, retreats, meetings, and other learning opportunities, this structure provides a “home base” for each fellow and the opportunity to develop a close mentor/preceptor relationship with the business unit’s leader. Goals And Objectives
The Administrative Fellowship Program is designed to provide a broad educational experience in health services management that is consistent with Jefferson’s mission. Specific Program objectives include:
|Kaiser Permanente||The fellowship program begins each July. As a fellow, you will receive a competitive salary, benefits package, and accrue both vacation and sick leave. Also, your dependents are eligible for full medical and dental benefits. Opportunities to attend internal and external educational conferences are available to current fellows.
During the medical center rotations, fellows interact with Permanente Medical Group and Kaiser Foundation Hospital/Health Plan leaders, managers, and staff. In most cases, fellows are accountable to either Medical Group administrators or Kaiser Foundation Hospital/Health Plan administrators.
Northern California offers a 12-month fellowship focused on health care operations with two six-month rotations at the medical center. In addition, there is an option for an additional corporate rotation in the regional offices at the end of the 12-month period.
Southern California offers a 24-month fellowship that includes three, eight-month rotations: two at a medical center and/or medical office, and one at the regional offices. Fellows are placed in their first rotation by the organization but fellows generally choose their location for the second and third rotations.
|Loyola University Health System||The Loyola University Medical Center (LUMC) Administrative Fellowship is a one-year program structured to develop the leadership skills of future health-care administrators. |Main Line Health||Main Line Health’s Administrative Fellowship will focus on dealing with issues relating to how a complex health care system functions. The Fellow will have a diverse, hands-on experience with the opportunity to experience areas such as corporate structure, capital finance, operations, and system-wide strategic planning. The Fellow will explore various project opportunities through rotations with Senior Executives and work with his/her preceptors in the selection of project work to align with the Fellow’s objectives and the organization’s needs. Administrative fellows are encouraged to apply for available positions at Mayo Clinic following completion of the program. The majority of administrative fellows have accepted positions at Mayo for their first post-Administrative Fellowship Program assignment.
|MD Anderson Medical Center||Fellows spend the first two months rotating through several key departments of the hospital. This provides the fellows with an opportunity to become familiar with the institution, meet leaders and identify areas for further project work or rotations. Departments are familiar with the program and enjoy meeting the new fellows each year.
Shadow and work closely with the senior operations team
Fellows are immediately welcomed to be a part of the senior operations team. Fellows spend time shadowing key leaders to gain perspective on the day-to-day challenges and decisions faced. Also, fellows work closely with the senior operations team on projects that further the organization’s goals.
Choose a concentration and be partnered with an executive mentor
Following the completion of rotations, the fellows have the opportunity to choose a concentration in Performance Improvement/Quality, Finance, Operations or Information Systems. Once concentration areas are selected, a second—more specific—set of rotations occur in the area of interest to the fellow. Unlike the broad-based rotations, tours through these areas are focused on operational mechanics and analysis within departments and areas of interest. Related governance standards (i.e., ACHE, HFMA, CPHIMS, TAPE) consistent with the concentration, also serve as credentialing milestones for fellows who qualify. In addition to the overall preceptor-fellow relationship, the selection of a concentration also provides fellows with an added level of mentorship from leaders within their concentration area. This allows administrative fellows to not only gain exposure to various types of leadership and managerial skills through daily interaction with all members of the Senior Operations Team, but to form a strong mentor relationship with executives regarding project management and exposure to strategic initiatives as it relates to career interests. Depending on the fellows’ own abilities and interests, specific recommendations for assigned mentors include: the Vice President, Finance and Accounting; Vice President of Clinical Support Services; Chief Information Officer; and Vice President, Process Improvement.
|Methodist Health Texas||The Methodist Administrative Fellowship Program lasts a total of 18 months. The first month is spent meeting with senior leadership throughout the organization and learning about key initiatives. |The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia||CHOP’s two-year Administrative Fellowship (AFP) will focus on understanding the complexities and functions of a large pediatric healthcare system. The fellows will have a diverse, hands-on experience with the opportunity to gain exposure in areas such as corporate structure, capital finance, operations and system-wide strategic planning.The AFP fellows will have one preceptor, the Director of Diversity and Inclusion, to whom they report throughout the program. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Fellow becomes an entry-level administrator by assuming increasing levels of responsibility and working with administrators and staff at all levels of the organization.The initial phase of the Fellowship consists of rotations throughout the Health System designed to educate and orient the Fellow to the functions and structure of the organization. This two-year program will take fellows through a series of required and elective educational rotations to provide a mix of broad exposure and practical work experience spanning the breadth of UK HealthCare’s hospitals, colleges and administrative services.Candidates for the administrative fellowship program are likely to have recently matriculated from a Masters in Health Administration or a Masters in Business Administration program.
